The capsuleer known by the call sign Che Biko is a Gallente man born on a temperate planet. He started out as a prospector, but is mostly known for being one of the top pilots and captain of the most successful team in the Sub-warp Racing Venture league. He is also know as a proponent of peace and has had some success as a writer. He is one of the few capsuleers that are neutral towards Sansha's Nation, which played a part in his controversial story Nightmares[1].

Childhood[edit]

Not much is known about Biko's childhood. He grew up on Schoorasana IV in the Gallente Federation. His parents are fairly wealthy and divorced when he was about 7 years old. He continued to live with his mother, who was also the local party leader for the Ecommunist party at the time, and in the weekends he lived with his father. Despite being very intelligent, it took Biko 7 years to complete his HGSE (Higher General Secondary Education) with average grades, where 5 years is standard.

He was also somewhat of a creative mind, his graphic arts teacher making mention of both Biko's talent and lack of discipline. He also learned to play 3 or 4 instruments in varying levels of competency, was part of a youth pop choir and an editor for the school paper for some time, and took part in 2 school musicals. He also dabbled in various sports sometimes.

Around his 17th birthday, he became a volunteer for the local youth society. In the last year of his HGSE he picked up a mild drug habit, and began a relationship with his current wife Deodata, a female from Intaki descent.

Pre-capsuleer Career[edit]

After finishing the HGSE, Biko and Deodata started living together and worked various low education level jobs intermitted by considerable periods of unemployment, although he still worked his volunteer job at the youth society most of the time, and later took another minor volunteer job at the local chapter of the Refugees Institute, a chapter which his mother had build up. He still works for the youth society.

He became a member of the Ecommunist party in December 108. His mother was no longer the local party leader at that time. Shortly afterwards, an internal dispute reached it's peak, with several party members leaving the party, including one of the two government council members for the party, a member of the board and Biko's mother. A couple of months later, Biko became a member of the board for the party, a position he held until May 116.

After another period of unemployment, his mother pushed him to apply for the capsuleer training program. He was accepted for the program, and finished summa cum laude on his theory exam, but needed two attempts on his practical.

Capsuleer Career[edit]

First Years[edit]

After obtaining his license in April 110, he broke contact with his mentor after he was assigned a combat mission. He started mining belts alone or with other mostly independent capsuleers and unlike most capsuleers, Biko kept flying the velator for months, and later did the same with his tormentor frigate.
On the 15th of May, after the FNS Wandering Saint had crashed into the Ishukone [ISH] HQ, Biko docked there to assist in damage control and search&rescue operations as part of the capsuleer Malkalen Relief effort, and in the following 2 weeks assisted in subsequent recovery operations.
On the 7th of June, Biko made a petition [2] and started picketing to move the Gallente Foiritan administration to start negotiations for a diplomatic return of Caldari Prime to the Caldari State. 3 days later, the State conquered Caldari Prime, making his petition superfluous.
2 months after Biko obtained his license, Vulcan Foundry [V.F.] recruited him, and he relocated to Scheenins, but after a month he resigned and started freelancing for The Scope [TS], reportedly because of a disagreement concerning the Rules Of Engagement. He resumed mining the belts like he did before, mostly in the Ancbeu constellation.
A week later, during one of his mining operations, Biko was recruited by Erik Finnegan, an associate of The Scope, to work for his corporation Polytechnique Gallentéenne [PYGAL]. During his time there he learned to pilot exhumers, took part in their wormhole operations, and founded the 10-segrity racing team. When [PYGAL] moved their HQ from Scheenins to Tourier, Biko moved there as well. After working 19 months for [PYGAL], Biko left the corporation to start his own "movement"; Humanitarian Communists [HUCOM], and moved to Tekaima.

YC 112-115: Independence/Isolation[edit]

On the 25th of March 112, Biko helped organize the capsuleer Pashanai relief effort, following an explosion on the Ministry of War station, and took part in subsequent recovery operations in the following days.
Biko largely withdrew himself from his capsuleer affairs around the second half of 113. There are several rumours about why, including nanite infection, threats and mental instability (hallucinations, memory problems, depression and claustrophobia). Some or all of this may be linked to an incident in The Razors Edge Dance Club, owned by capsuleer Driselle Callibri. Biko had become a regular face there, and during one of his visits he reportedly made the mistake of speaking to Nikita Alterana, a capsuleer loyal to the Angel Cartel, who had been drinking "several bottles of liquor". She injured Biko with a bottle, after which Syn Callibri, wife of Driselle, entered the club and talked to her. After the "emotional" conversation that followed, Alterana and Callibri left the club. About a minute later, several gunshots were heard outside the club, and a lockdown procedure was initiated and aborted shortly after. A witness reports there were no fatalities.
Shortly before Biko withdrew from his capsuleer affairs, both Alterana and the Callibris did the same. Whether this is coincidence is unknown, but mid 114 YC, Biko made an inquiry on the IGS that suggested he suspected he might be responsible for the disappearance of Alterana and Aria Jenneth, a capsuleer formerly loyal to the Angel cartel who formed a corporation that was later joined by Alterana shortly before their disappearance.
Biko returned to the capsuleer community during the first quarter of 114, at first only with communications, but when the wealthy capsuleer Benilopax started the organization of a new sub-warp race event, he had "to get back in my pod now". Benilopax never hosted the race, but the SRV hosted a few races in the following 1 1/2 year. Biko took part in those with considerable success. He did not resume his industrial activities.
In December 114 he entered his second fiction contest. His entry, Nightmares, did not win any prizes, but did receive good reviews, praising the dark aspects of the story, wherein a man tries to find answers about Sansha's Nation while they attack the station he lives in. Some commented that the schizophrenic writing style, which was not well liked by part of the jury, actually served to outline the twisted psychology of the narrator's character.
A few months after publication, some people started to notice similarities between Biko and the lead character in the story, particularly their views concerning Sansha's Nation. This led to at least one case of vandalism of his house on Schoorasana IV and an assassination attempt by a gallentean paramilitary anti-capsuleer group. Biko has reportedly become more reclusive since these incidents, and makes more effort to avoid being recognized while baselining on his home world.

YC 115-116: Highlander and Humanitarianism[edit]

In the weeks leading up to Operation Highlander, the Gallente attack on Caldari Prime on March 22nd 115, Biko was critical of Mentas Blaque's polarizing comments, and this, along with the rising tensions on Caldari Prime, motivated to do two things: he said the Roden administration should fire Blaque, and he created his second petition concerning Caldari Prime[3], this time asking the Roden administration to leave Caldari Prime in Caldari hands, and asking CONCORD to declare the planet and surrounding space a demilitarized zone under CONCORD protection. Biko also started picketing near the Shiigeru, the Caldary Navy Leviathan guarding the planet, and his unarmed shuttle was destroyed by the surrounding support fleet. When Admiral Visera Yanala took command of the Shiigeru, Biko thought she would be the right person to handle the high pressure situation. His petition and picketing was not something that everyone offered praise for, some calling him naïve, and when he publicly made recommendations to the Caldary Navy after destroying his shuttle[4], he was the target of some ridicule. Biko was in orbit of Caldari Prime when Operation Highlander took place, and was part of a capsuleer search&rescue initiative in the aftermath of the battle. While his petition and picketing did not prevent Operation Highlander from happening, his plan for a DMZ was discussed by CONCORD's Inner Circle, and the current DMZ is very similar to the one suggested by Biko and other capsuleers.
On the 17th of April, Biko nearly died when he was exposed to neurotoxin at a charity event in the Divinity's Edge Club in Caille during the assassination attempt on Ava Starfire's life.
Biko was one of the speakers during the Malkalen Memorial in May 115. In his speech[5], he encouraged those present to not discourage "the dreamers". This speech was likely inspired by his own experiences earlier in the year.
Later, he started doing deathcan rescues (the rescue of people left to die in cargo containers dumped in space by capsuleers), inspired by pacifist capsuleer Ston Momaki, and created the Coordination Channel for Consolidated Space Rescue Cooperation (C3SRC) in December. Earlier that month, he published an open letter to the Aidonis Foundation directorate, requesting that winners of the Aidonis Statue recieve proper exposure. It recieved mostly positive responses from the public. He also donated several hundred million ISK to various charities while he liquidated a lot of his assets. He donated his planetary industrial facilities in Tekaima to the people maintaining the facilities, following a period of over a year where he did not supervise the facilities. During the official transfer of ownership Biko said "These facilities are de facto more yours than mine, so it's about time we made this so de jure as well."
In May 116, during an local election year, Biko resigned his position as board member for the local Ecommunist party. A couple months later, the party's political leader, along with the rest of the board members, resigned and formed a new party.
Biko was one of those honoured by receiving the "Muryia’s Wings" decoration on the 21st of August 116. There are rumors, fed by some of the words found on the decoration's description, that Biko received this honor more for his repeated efforts to bring a stable peace to Caldari Prime than his actions during Operation Highlander.
After being quite reclusive for a while, Biko visited the Origin system during and after the Landfall Festival.

Current Activities[edit]

In January 117, Biko closed Humanitarian Communists to join Alexylva Paradox and live in Origin. His search and rescue patrols had increased in frequency, but not by much, and now they are a sparse occurrence. When the Drifters appeared, Biko seemed mostly concerned with partying "like there's no tomorrow". In May and June, he took part in the Pakhshi Peace Conference as an independent delegate, but not much is known about his other activities, apart from pushing for decentralization in Origin, and assisting in merging the Schrinkerworth Ecommunist branch on Schoorasana IV with a neighboring branch.

Personal[edit]

Biko tends to keep a low profile. Many people in his environment aren't even aware he's a capsuleer. He lives in a fairly cheap home, even by non-capsuleer standards, together with his partner, and has a lot of second hand furniture. He has no children or pets and prefers to spend more time with friends than with family. Like a lot of capsuleers, he doesn't spend a lot of time in his pod. He actually spends more time on his volunteer jobs. His hobbies include writing, holography, music, sports, watching holoreels and playing hologames. He's also seen hanging out and dancing in clubs sometimes. Based on what people around him (crew and dockworkers included) say, he's a quiet but friendly man, with the occasional witty remark, and an interest in philosophy, science and politics.

During the first days of March YC 115, Biko got acquainted with Cynthia Gallente, a controversial capsuleer, known for mass murder, slavery and acting offensive. He met her when he visited Gallente's club in Jita, The Bunny Lounge, shortly after it was moved to another location following the destruction of the first location by Gallente's partner, Sara Sirlanka. Despite their differences, the two entered a romantic affair, and rumors indicate Biko may have been the one that caused Gallente to become pregnant. The pregnancy ended in a miscarriage in the first weeks, and Gallente and Biko seem to have ended their romance in June.

On the 10th of June YC 115, Biko married with his long time partner Deodata, in a small private ceremony in his hometown of Zilveras, but their relationship remains open.

Political, Philosophical and Religious Views[edit]

Apart from being an obvious communist, Biko's statements indicate he believes all things in the universe are governed by causality, and that free will does not exist. He is not a religious man, but his behavior is in at least some degree inspired by Ida. Claims to have encountered sefrim-like beings.
Around the time he left [PYGAL] and headed for Tekaima, Biko expressed he no longer felt at home in the Federation. Among the reasons were Anvent Enturrer's public execution, the war with the State, and the appearance of Roden police forces shortly after Jacus Roden was elected president.
He is quite sympathetic towards Sansha's Nation. He wrote that there was only one major reason why he did not join Nation's supposed cause: he did not trust its leader, Sasha Kuvakei.

Appearance[edit]

Biko dresses far below even non-capsuleer Gallentean standards. His clothes come from different cultures but are almost always black. A lot of them are damaged, either by wear and tear or purposefully. He usually wears practical Caldari or Minmatar workers pants, accompanied with a Minmatar or Caldari shirt or a Minmatar/Amarrian sweater, and Minmatar leather boots, sometimes complemented with a leather jacket and leather gloves.

His hairstyle is also a multicultural mash, with elements from both mainstream Gallentean fashion and Intaki and Minmatar culture. His hair is long on the top of his head and the back of his neck, and is usually combed to the right side or combed to the back and in a ponytail. The sides of his head are cut short with random patterns shaven inside. He has sideburns and a light beard on his chin, accompanied by an even lighter mustache. He wears no jewelry but a silver ring in his left ear.

Biko has an average posture apart from a little pot belly.
